How to get Search Engines to Read Your Site

All search engines read your site in one of two ways. Either it is automated where crawlers follow the links that are on your site or through human entered directories. When crawlers crawl your site they add the information into their search database from the text they find on your pages. The text can be found through “meta tags” or through actual content of your page. If you have an abundance of keywords it can be good for your website but if the crawler determines that you have “spammed keywords” you can be punished. You have to have a balance between too many and too little.

Yahoo still uses human directories but human directories are becoming a thing of the past. Imagine how many hired employees it takes to scan the internet looking for new material and the amount of time it takes. Getting listed with a human based directory can take months unless you pay a premium for almost instant addition. The last time I checked the price with Yahoo it was hundreds of dollars. Google does not rely on human directories as much. They are one of the top Web Crawlers available and you will get included in their database much quicker and for free.
