More Juice? Reciprocal or One Way Links
Even the newest of webmasters know that page rank and increased web site traffic are essential for having a top website. And most of the experts will tell you backlinks are a major part of increasing web site traffic, higher ranking, and more leads that turn into more sales. But many newbies also wonder how to get these coveted backlinks. This post is not so much about the” how to” but more of “what are” backlinks, in particular the difference between one way links and reciprocal links.
First off a backlink is when you another website links to your site from theirs. In the Google world as well as the other search engines these backlinks have importance or ”give juice” to the receiving “ website. The more backlinks, the faster the website moves up the ladder to reach the first page of search engine results. Reaching the first page then makes your website what a person sees when they search for a particular phrase or word AKA keywords. If your site is not one of the first that appears then you probably won’t be seen much, as most people find what they are looking for on the first page of search results.
Getting back to backlinks, there are two types one way or reciprocal. One way backlinks usually start like this. You write an awesome post and people believe you are now an expert in the subject in which you are writing about. Snippets or parts of your content are now quoted in other people’s posts and of course they pay respect to you by adding a link to your website. You’ve done nothing more or less than wrote an interesting or informative article or post and now your website will see increased traffic due to your expertise. See how easy that is? But unless you are already a celebrity of some sort one way backlinks are few and far between. There are other ways to get one way links but that will be discussed in later topics if not already covered in previous topics enough.
Reciprocal backlinks though take a little more work on your side. In reciprocal backlinks, commonly two webmasters get together and decide to include a link to each other’s site. Thus the word reciprocal or to reciprocate. Let me note here that these backlinks either one way or reciprocal should be between sites that are in the same niche or neither one of them will provide much juice.
So we get down to the question of which types links will drive you up in the search rankings and increase your website traffic more? Many of the experts will agree with me when I say one-way backlinks are the best overall because it doesn’t look like you are backlinking by purpose. In other words, somebody somewhere has determined that your site has something that other people want to look at. In the case of reciprocal links they look like a set up deal and are not showing any kind of respect just another way to get backlinks.
